Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis jumped into the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. But he might find there isn't much room in the pool. In the gallery's lead image this week, editorial cartoonist Walt Handelsman sees former President Donald Trump already filling it up.

DeSantis' battle with the Walt Disney Co. is a common theme. Bill Bramhall shows the governor throwing his bullet-pocked mouse ears into the ring. Drew Sheneman's Mickey Mouse stands on top of a dazed DeSantis, wishing him luck with Trump. Steve Breen's version of the governor tilts with Dumbo while the Republican Party gives him the side-eye. Dana Summers draws Trump and DeSantis duking it out while Democrats sit back and watch. Bramhall likens the campaign's glitchy Twitter launch as the Hindenburg crashing in flames.

The week's other big story was negotiations between House Republicans and the White House over raising the debt ceiling as the government came closer to default. Breen sees the crisis as a time bomb and Sheneman as a hand grenade. Michael Ramirez draws Biden and McCarthy as tandem parachutists reluctant to pull the chute first. Joey Weatherford draws Biden rejecting blame for a possible default. Mike Luckovich's Republican elephant is sawing off the wing of the world economy airplane while saying, "Biden's the pilot. He'll get blamed for the crash."

Other news items in the cartoons include Surgeon General Vivek Murthy's warning about the dangers of social media; the global food crisis brought on by inflation; the one-year anniversary of the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas; and the observance of Memorial Day.

Cartoons were drawn by Jack Ohman, Nick Anderson, Bill Bramhall, Dana Summers, Drew Sheneman, Scott Stantis, Walt Handelsman, David Horsey, Phil Hands, Joel Pett and Joey Weatherford of Tribune Content Agency; and Mike Luckovich, Steve Breen and Michael Ramirez of Creators Syndicate.
