The exciting news of Counter Strike 2 is finally here. While some of the best players show off the new features in the CS2 limited test, it's worth considering if Counter Strike 2 is coming to Xbox Series X/S.

Well, now that the biggest update to the Counter Strike franchise is here and the hype is building, maybe that gives Valve (the game's developers) a reason to revisit Counter Strike on consoles.

Will Counter Strike 2 be on Xbox Series X/S?

Some of us may remember that CS:GO did initially release on consoles - landing on the Xbox 360 way back in 2012. It came a long way since then, but the console versions unfortunately didn't receive as much love (or updates). Though it's still playable, the CS experience on Xbox is noticeable outdated.

At present, Counter-Strike 2 has been confirmed for release exclusively on Valve's handheld device, the Steam Deck. Although, there are currently no official announcements about the game being launched on other gaming consoles such as PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch. However, this information is subject to change in the future.

So, what can we expect from Counter Strike 2 - will it be coming to Xbox? Well, right now there is no news of any Xbox Series X/S release for CS2. The latest version of CS is set for a release this summer as an upgrade to CSGO - with only a PC release announced so far.

Will CS2 ever be on Xbox or other consoles?

Valve definitely did start putting more effort into console releases back in the Orange Box days, and with the initial release of CSGO. That has definitely changed in recent times, but we can only hope that Counter Strike 2 can be the return of CS to Xbox - or other consoles - in future.

Counter Strike 2 will be coming to Steam Deck

Counter-Strike 2 has been confirmed for release on Steam, macOS, and SteamOS (Linux), but there is speculation about the availability of the next-gen version of the classic shooter on other platforms. As of now, Valve's handheld device, the Steam Deck, is the only console that will officially support Counter-Strike 2. While the Steam Deck is capable of running Counter-Strike: Global Offensive at 1280×800 with a consistent 60 frames per second, the game may encounter performance issues on the handheld console once it is upgraded to Counter-Strike 2 later this year.

Although there are other Windows and Linux-based handheld consoles available, their performance capabilities may vary. If you intend to play Counter-Strike on the Steam Deck, it's important to note that the 64GB model features an eMMC storage drive, while the 256GB and 512GB models come equipped with faster NVMe SSDs for data read and write speeds.

It's worth mentioning that playing the game on the Steam Deck will require you to use the built-in joysticks and touchscreen, as opposed to a keyboard and mouse. While this may not be the ideal method of playing, it remains a viable option for gamers looking to enjoy the game on-the-go.

With the much easier compatibility with keyboard and mouse for modern consoles such as the Xbox Series X/S, hopes of CS2 may be picking up. Until we see an official announcement though, it's hard to conclude whether Counter Strike 2 will ever come to Xbox. The chances seem slim based on recent trends, but Valve always seem to surprise us time and time again.
