Lily's level 3 Super Art and Critical Art appear to be flipped around from how you'd expect them to be in Street Fighter 6

In their culmination of the franchise as a whole, Capcom is bringing back both Super Arts and Critical Arts for Street Fighter 6, but they now fulfull some different roles than previously in the past.

Lily is the latest character that fans have gotten to see both versions of her level 3 Super Art and Critical Art in SF6 thanks to her new gameplay footage, but they appear to be flipped around from how you probably expected them to be.

The first cinematic Super we saw for Lily came back in her initial trailer where she performed what looks like her own version of T. Hawk's Double Typhoon from past games.

That is except the opponent slips out of her clubs before the final slam, and she ends up falling down on top of them in likely reference to T. Hawk's Raging Typhoon Ultra from Street Fighter 4.

Since she kinda failed to perform the full move, we and likely many others thought this would be the base version of her level 3 Super in SF6, and the complete version would be her Critical Art.

We got to see in her developer match footage against E. Honda, however, that she actually does do the full Double Typhoon, but it's as her regular level 3 Super.

This has us rethinking a bit what Critical Arts are meant to represent in SF6 since before it felt like those were saved for a character's ultimate / powered up move like Ryu or Jamie, but it may just be more along the lines for some of which has the longer animation.

Just because Lily drops the opponent doesn't mean we think her Critical Art will do less damage than the actual level 3 and / or provide another benefit over the regular version.

We've also seen Capcom open the doors a lot more as to how characters can spend their Super meter in SF6 depending on the character and situation, which is going to make players think more in general as to how they want to spend it.

Some fighters like Cammy and Chun-Li can spend 3 bars by comboing from their level 2 Supers to level 1's, and some level 3 Supers provide better oki or combo follow-ups over their Critical Art counterparts — so waiting for the biggest single chunk of damage won't always be the correct play.

We don't know what happens after Lily's Critical Art yet, but we do see from her level 3 that she's sent far enough back that she'd have to spend a Drive Rush to keep pressure after the attack.

Street Fighter 6 is currently set to release on June 2 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
