NFL Draft 2021: Daniel Jeremiah doesn't believe Giants' Dave Gettleman will trade back from No. 11, despite rumors

It's an annual tradition at this point for experts to take cracks at Giants general manager Dave Gettleman for his aversion to trade-backs in the NFL Draft.

That discussion came roaring back on social media recently when Warren Sharp pointed out that Gettleman has made 55 total picks as a general manager and never traded back a single time, even beyond the first round.

Tuesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Giants were, in fact, exploring a possible move-back from the 11th pick in the first round.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah — a former NFL scout for the Eagles and Ravens — doesn't believe it.

On a Wednesday conference call, Jeremiah was asked about possible edge rusher targets at No. 11 and started talking about Michigan's Kwity Paye, viewed by many to be a possible Giants target.

Jeremiah, though, said No. 11 "might be too early" to draft Paye "so maybe that's a trade-back."

Then, he took his crack at Gettleman.

"I saw Gettleman say the other day that was a possibility," Jeremiah said. "I'm not buying it. I think we'll see a right turn at a NASCAR race before we see Dave Gettleman trade back so I don't see that happening."

(Note: Gettleman didn't say this. Jeremiah was referencing Rapoport's report.)

In a vacuum, trading back makes a lot of sense for the Giants, especially since their biggest need is probably edge rusher, and none of the players at that position have a top-10 grade around the league.

Plus, if a quarterback like Alabama's Mac Jones or Ohio State's Justin Fields falls out of the top 10, a quarterback-needy team like the New England Patriots or Chicago Bears might be inclined to pay a pretty penny for a move up to the Giants slot.

But alas, Gettleman has never traded back, so until he does, it'd be difficult to project that changing in 2021.
