(MLive.com file photo) CHEBOYGAN, MI -- A pair of bombs were discovered and defused safely last week outside two Michigan cellphone retailers and they may be linked to letters found in the Upper Peninsula. According to the Associated Press, the bombs were found outside of a Verizon store in Cheboygan and an AT&T store in Sault Ste. Marie on Sept. 16. Police were called around 9 a.m. that day after an employee of the store in Cheboygan reported a suspicious package near the door. After opening the package, police discovered the bomb, which was defused. The bomb in Sault Ste. Marie was also defused and no injuries were reported. The FBI said each bomb was found in U.S. Postal Service boxes and they were sealed with black duct tape. The bombs had the letters "CMT" written on it and contained threatening notes addressed to the cellphone companies, according to the AP. The letters are similar to ones found last month from a group calling themselves the "Coalition for Moral Telecommunications." The original letters made demands of telecommunications companies and were found at several telecommunications tower sites, according to the FBI. The case is being investigated by the FBI, Michigan State Police and other agencies.
