Airbnb is making its ban on parties permanent.

The online marketplace for lodging first implemented a temporary global ban on parties in August 2020. As of today, June 28, that ban has been made permanent.

"We believe there is a direct correlation between our implementation of the policy in August 2020 and a 37% year-over-year drop in the rate of party reports in Michigan," the company said in a statement.

The newly codified policy includes consequences for violators from suspension to complete removal from the Airbnb platform. In 2021, more than 6,600 guests were suspended for attempting to violate the party ban.

Enforcement measures include anti-party reservation prevention, special holiday anti-party measures, a 24-hour safety line, a Neighborhood Support Line, and a partnership with Vrbo to share information on repeat "party house" offenders.

Strict anti-party measures are in place for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday. Guests without a history of positive reviews on Airbnb are prohibited from making one-night reservations in entire home listing. This measure was successful over Memorial Day weekend and Fourth of July 2021, the company said.
