UPDATE: Now official. Enzo out for the rest of the season; should be back in time for the Copa with Argentina.

Good luck, kid.

PREVIOUSLY:

According to reports from Argentina, including from TyC Sports, Enzo Fernández has chosen to have his surgery for inguinal hernia before the Copa América — with the exact date for the operation to be defined today. The insinuation appears to be that it will be very soon, perhaps right away, which would rule him out for the rest of the season.

The decision to have the surgery was taken after our elimination from the FA Cup and the subsequent horrendous defeat against Arsenal a few days later, though it's not exactly an unexpected decision. In many ways, given the way our season is turning out, it's the expected one, already rumored for the past couple weeks as well.

Enzo has been dealing with this problem since at least December — the report actually claims since last summer! — and while he's managed to play through it for the most part, it has seemingly started to affect his performances more and more of late. Sports hernias are not fun when they flare up.

Recovery time is around 3-4 weeks. The Copa América starts in a little under two months, but apparently Argentina will only take "100% physically fit" players.
