It is now official: Barcelona confirmed on Thursday that Xavi Hernández has reversed his decision to leave the club in the summer and will fulfill his contract as first team head coach until the end of the 2024-25 season.

Xavi spoke to the press on Thursday and explained the reasons why he has decided to stick around for one more year after a meeting with president Joan Laporta, and he revealed he's received full support from his bosses, his players and the fans as they're set for one more year together.

"Everyone knows my feelings for this club. I've received a lot of confidence from the club, from the entire board and also my team, the players. This project isn't finished yet. We need to keep working hard, consolidate the project and this is the reason why I changed my decision.

"Yesterday after a couple of minutes we understood that this was the best decision. I'm very grateful that I can continue. We're now eager to bring stability to the club.

"The fans give me much love. I see it in the streets and they want me to continue. I see them still excited. Next season we will continue to fight hard.

"Today we had one of the most intense training sessions of the season. It was spectacular. I told my players about the meeting, and I said that I have the strength and desire to continue this project.

"If I were to leave, I wouldn't have collected the money for next season. That news is NOT true. This is not about money."

Barça's priority according to all reports was to keep Xavi and not look for a new manager, but they left it up to the coach to decide if he had the mental energy to deal with the pressure of the job for another season. It seems as though Xavi is ready to stick around for 12 more months and help the club's rebuild, and we'll see what decisions will be made this summer to give him a better, strong squad to compete on all fronts next season.

Are you as excited for another year of Xavi as he seems to be, Barça fans?
