Tottenham could now hire Michael Edwards to replace Fabio Paratici after the 50-year-old stepped down on Friday.

What's the story?

Well, the Italian has agreed to take an immediate leave of absence as FIFA extended his 30-month ban from Italian football worldwide, after he was found guilty of false accounting.

Tottenham revealed in an official statement that Paratici's future depends on the outcome of his appeal on Wednesday 19th April.

If Tottenham's Director of Football does lose his appeal, then Daniel Levy must get in touch with Edwards.

The 43-year-old left his role as Director of Football at the end of the 2021/22 campaign as he wanted to take a break from football, although it was never specified how long he wanted to be out of the game.

Edwards - according to Ben Jacobs - was approached by Todd Boehly at Chelsea back in January, although the Blues were rejected with the transfer guru not yet ready for a return.

The Southampton-born negotiator made a name for himself at Anfield after overseeing some remarkable deals, such as the £34m signing of Mohamed Salah, as well as some extraordinary sales.

Edwards somehow sold Dominic Solanke for £19m shortly after signing the striker on a free transfer, while he also offloaded Jordan Ibe to Bournemouth for £15m.

He also managed to wrangle £27m and £26m from Crystal Palace for Christian Benteke and Mamadou Sakho respectively.

Tottenham can easily make contact with Michael Edwards

Interestingly, Edwards has already worked for Spurs in the past.

🚨 Official: Tottenham director Fabio Paratici steps down from his role as managing director of football pending the outcome of his appeal against a worldwide ban.

The man described as a "genius" by Goal was actually Tottenham's Chief Scout under Harry Redknapp, so Levy surely won't find it difficult to get in touch with him about replacing Paratici.

If Tottenham can convince Edwards to return, they could become a real force in the market - although it also depends on who Levy finds to replace Antonio Conte as well.
