Eleanor Williams case: Detective reveals how we caught fantasist who cried rape

In a small Cumbrian town a web of lies spun by one young woman's Facebook post exploded a bomb of hatred and mistrust.

It shattered lives, fractured relationships, broke businesses, caused racist violence and drove a wedge between the police and the community, which remains, three years on, unrepaired.

Her name was Eleanor Williams. This week the 22-year-old was jailed for eight and a half years after a jury found her guilty of several charges of perverting the course of justice.

Williams fabricated evidence, to the extent of inflicting serious injuries on her own body, that implicated more than a dozen men in what she claimed were brutal sex crimes.

She accused three young white men of raping her and then she expanded her fantasies
