Matty Healy speaks out after apparently being sung about by Taylor Swift on new album

Taylor Swift's British former lover has become the first of her ex-boyfriends to speak out after apparently being referenced on her latest album.

Matt Healy, the lead singer on indie band The 1975, was asked by paparazzi: "How would you rate your Taylor diss track compared to the 30 others?"

Healy, who was out in Los Angeles, laughed off the question.

He replied: "I haven't really listened to that much of it - but I'm sure it's good."

He is one of a number of former beaus who are thought to be the subject of songs on Swift's latest release.

The pair were only linked together briefly, but fans have speculated that several songs on Swift's new album, The Tortured Poets Department, are about Healy.

The title track of Swift's album is rumoured to be about Healy because of the lyrics: "You left your typewriter at my apartment / Straight from the tortured poets department / I think some things I never say / Like, 'Who uses a typewriter anyway?'"

"Swifties", as the singer-songwriter's fans are known, deduced the reference was to Healy because he previously told GQ: "I really like typewriters".

Healy has also been linked to tracks "But Daddy I Love Him," "Fresh Out the Slammer," "Guilty As Sin?," "I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)" and "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived".

Healy and Swift are thought to have dated for around a month last summer following the end of the billionaire's six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn.

Alwyn also appears to feature on the album, purportedly on tracks "So Long, London" and "The Black Dog".

Swift's new album broke a new record after it was played more than one billion times on Spotify.

Spotify said on Wednesday: "On April 22, 2024, Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department became Spotify's most-streamed album in a single week.

"The album has surpassed one billion streams since release."
