Two former Cherries players shortlisted for Premier League Hall of Fame

TWO former Cherries players have been shortlisted for the latest round of inductees into the Premier League Hall of Fame.

First established in 2021, 16 players have currently been voted into the Hall of Fame, with fans able to select from a list of nominees.

They include the likes of Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, David Beckham and Wayne Rooney.

Five players will be added to the list this year, from the shortlist of 15.

Among the list is striker Jermain Defoe.

As well as playing for England, Defoe featured for six different Premier League clubs, including Cherries between 2017 and 2019.

Having also had a loan spell on the south coast in the 2000-01 campaign, Defoe returned when they were in the top flight, scoring four goals in 28 league appearances.

Also on the shortlist is another player who had a loan spell at Cherries whilst a youngster in Rio Ferdinand.

Ferdinand joined Cherries on loan in the 1996-97 season from West Ham United.

He went on to play in the Premier League for the Hammers, as well as Leeds United and then won the title multiple times with Manchester United, before ending his career at Queens Park Rangers.

Current Hall of Fame inductees: Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, David Beckham, Dennis Bergkamp, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Patrick Vieira, Wayne Rooney, Ian Wright, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, Didier Drogba, Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero, Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger.
