A man has been charged with the murder of a 37-year-old woman who died from "multiple injuries" in Chorley.

The body of Fiona Robinson was found on Friday after police were called to a property in Congress Street in the Lancashire town following "reports of a sudden death".

Officers attended at about 2.30am and discovered Ms Robinson, who had been living in Chorley after moving from Barrow-in-Furness last year.

A post-mortem found she died from multiple injuries.

Lancashire Police made an arrest at the scene and said Jason Gowen was charged with murder on Saturday evening.

The 26-year-old, of Congress Street, Chorley, is due to appear at Preston Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Police said Ms Robinson's family are being supported by specially-trained officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Haworth-Oates said: "First and foremost our thoughts are with Fiona's loved ones, who are going through unimaginable pain.

"We are determined to provide answers for them and although we have charged someone our investigation is ongoing.

"We are appealing for any information that could help us piece together what happened."
