In It Together Festival: Boy, 16, dies on opening day of event in Margam

A 16-year-old boy has died on the first day of a festival in south Wales, police have confirmed.

Police said they were called to an incident at the In It Together Festival at Margam near Port Talbot on Friday evening.

Chief Inspector Declan Cahill added: "Shortly after 8.30pm on Friday evening officers were called to an incident at the In It Together festival at Margam after a 16-year-old boy from Port Talbot suffered a medical episode.

"Sadly, the boy died while being taken to hospital via ambulance.

"Our sympathies are with his family at this time."

Police say there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

The festival is only in its second year in its current form at the new location in Margam near Port Talbot.

The event grew from events on the Cardiff nightclub scene in 2008.

This year's acts included The Kooks, The Vamps, Anne-Marie and Mel C.

DJ Tom Zanetti, plus Britain's Got Talent winners Diversity and Lost Voice Guy, were also part of the line-up.

Festival organisers Escape Records said in a statement they were alerted to a 16-year-old boy who was suffering from a suspected asthma attack on the festival site.

A spokesperson said: "We are deeply saddened by what has happened and are supporting the emergency services. Our condolences go out to the boy's family at this time.

"The health, wellbeing and safety of all our guests is our number one priority and we remain committed to that."
