Email: news@longfordlive.ie The courage of Longford Garda Emma Dardis and her colleague, Garda Anthony Todd, has been praised following a house fire. The gardaí, both attached to Castleblayney Garda Station, received a call last Saturday afternoon, March 11, alerting them to a house fire at Mullinary Road in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan. When Garda Dardis, who is a talented rugby player with Longford ladies RFC, and Garda Todd, arrived at the scene at approximatety 1.50pm, they were advised that a person was possibly trapped inside the building. And so despite the presence of very thick smoke both members entered to search the property. Fortunately, they discovered that no one needed to be brought to safety and the Carrickmacross Fire and Rescue service were subsequently able to bring the fire under control. A garda spokesperson outlined, "Garda Dardis and Garda Todd were both taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where they were kept overnight and treated for smoke inhalation. "Both members are continuing to recover at home, and we hope that they are feeling in the best of health again very soon. "We are all privileged to have their courage and commitment to #KeepingPeopleSafe no matter the circumstances." Carrickmacross Fire and Rescue service also wished Garda Dardis and Garda Todd a full and speedy recovery following the incident.
