A man has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter after a death at a Leicester swimming pool. Police cordoned off Cossington Street Sports Centre, in Belgrave, shortly after 1pm on Thursday (March 16) after they were called to the venue by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

A man, in his 20s, had earlier been taken ill at the venue. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said at the time that the man's death was "not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner as inquiries continue".

Officers said this afternoon that a 40-year-old Leicester man had been arrested today. He remains in police custody.

The arrested man is not connected to the leisure centre, said a spokesperson for the force.

They added: "Inquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the man's death."

Update 19/3/23: The arrested man has been released on police bail.
