Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Vincent Kompany over the past 24 hours or so.

The Sun claims the Burnley boss has emerged as a leading contender for the vacant Spurs job.

Tottenham are currently looking for a new permanent appointment to replace Antonio Conte.

And Spurs cult hero Paul Robinson thinks Kompany would be a great shout for the N17 job.

"Vincent Kompany would be a great appointment for Spurs, in my opinion," he wrote on Twitter.

"Really impressive this season.

"Spurs need something to build on. They've tried with Mourinho and Conte. Neither worked.

"Give a young, exciting manager a chance."

'The leader'

Robinson is spot on. Spurs have tried with high-profile, marquee managers, and it hasn't worked out.

Tottenham would be better off with the Mauricio Pochettino model, albeit with another boss.

This way, it would ensure a blank slate as a new manager seeks to write a new chapter with Spurs.

And Kompany certainly ticks a lot of boxes for Tottenham.

The 36-year-old has worked wonders at Burnley, steering them to the brink of promotion.

Kompany has also transformed their playing style, turning them into what some have deemed 'Man City-lite'.

The Belgian has finally found his feet after a mixed record as manager of Anderlecht.

Prior to embarking on his managing career, Kompany enjoyed a fruitful career at Manchester City.

He captained both the Etihad Stadium side and Belgium, earning plaudits from fans and peers.

Tottenham cult hero Jan Vertonghen said of Kompany in 2014, as per the Irish Times: "Vincent is a natural-born leader.

"He's the leader on and off the pitch. That's how everyone sees him.

"He's not fake. He's like the father of the team, taking care of everything and everyone."

Obviously Kompany will have a lot to think about if he gets a job offer from Tottenham.

Burnley are likely to be in the Premier League next season, and he may want to see what he can do with them in the top flight.

The likelihood is that surviving relegation and consolidating their position in the Premier League will be his main goal.

Meanwhile, the stakes would be a lot higher at Tottenham, who'll likely want a top-four finish at least.

We'll see what happens, but nevertheless, Kompany seems like a good shout for Spurs.
