The grounds at the Royal Hospital Chelsea were transformed into a horticultural haven of bountiful blooms and fabulous foliage for this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The themes of sustainability and biodiversity took centre stage — both changing the way designers and exhibitors approach their creations with exciting new ideas, innovations and, of course, plants galore. Here's my potted guide to this year's event. The Boodles British Craft garden, designed by Tom Hoblyn, features an arbour by Cox London RHS Plants such as geums, purple alliums and verbascums have become Chelsea stalwarts, helped by the fact that they can reliably be in bloom for mid-May. Lovely as they are, in some years they were popping up everywhere and it felt like the planting had become a bit predictable, but that can't be said about this year's wide-ranging selection of plants.
