A WOMAN charged with murder following the death of a man in Bradford has made her first appearance in court.

Susan Poole is accused of the murder of David Hart in Shetland Close, in the BD2 area of the city, on Tuesday, April 16.

Poole, of Shetland Close, appeared at Bradford Magistrates' Court on Friday lunchtime where she was remanded in custody following a five-minute long hearing.

The 52-year-old, who had long black hair and was wearing a grey jumper, stood in the glass-fronted dock as she faced three magistrates, chaired by Brian Outlaw.

Poole, flanked by a security guard, spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth, and address.

Sajad Chaudhury, defending, told the court that Poole has indicated a not-guilty plea.

Mr Chaudhury told the court that this was a "difficult" and "complex" case that has attracted national media coverage. He added that there is a police investigation into the events which took place.

Mr Chaudhury insisted now that the defendant has been charged that witnesses should come forward to the police.

He wanted to "encourage" and "endorse" not only those who witnessed what happened on the day but the goings-on in the few days previous.

He highly recommended for people to do so as the evidence could prove pivotal.

Poole will next appear at Bradford Crown Court on Monday, April 22.

Previously, West Yorkshire Police said: "We are conducting house-to-house enquiries and CCTV trawls in the area, and I would urge anyone with information, who has not already spoken to the police, to please make contact.

"The property backs on to Goals sports complex, King's Road, Bradford, and we are also urging anyone who was using the pitches yesterday afternoon who may have seen or heard anything out of the ordinary to please report it."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team via Live Chat online or by calling 101, quoting log 1109 of April 16.
