Stoke City player ratings vs Coventry as Neil's relentless Potters hit heights

Original source (on modern site) | Article images: [1]

Sensational Stoke City blew away a Coventry side who were unbeaten in nine and, before this game, had the second best defensive record in the Championship.

Alex Neil's side were relentless as they ran out 4-0 winners to continue form which belies their status in mid-table. Jacob Brown, Tyrese Campbell, Will Smallbone and Ki-Jana Hoever found the net to send a sell-out away end into party mode.

There are only seven games remaining and Stoke have left it too late to mount a charge for the play-offs but they aren't half having fun at the moment, wherever this run takes them. This was the seventh time since late January that they've scored at least three.

Coventry 0 Stoke 4: Reaction from Alex Neil

It is all being played out to a raucous Stoke following, punch drunk on goals. The away end serenaded Neil and his players as they look forward to whatever comes next.

Here are the player ratings from the CBS Arena.

Bonham: Nervous moment when kick intercepted early on but brave to lurch into feet to grab cross. Eye-catching couple of saves in second half. 8

Sterling: Covers grounds so quickly and useful pace to defend counter-attacks, barring one daft moment when he slid in early on Dabo. 7

Hoever: Picked up form from where he left off, dangerous and skilful charging forward. Super goal. Stoke didn't realise they were signing Carlos Alberto on loan from Wolves. "Sign him up," sang the away end. 8

Wilmot: Backed himself to defend aggressively, nipping in to make interceptions. Header cleared off the line at the other end. 8

Jagielka: Captain on 800th appearance of career and a vital influence against a lively attack. Threw himself into challenges like a teenager. 8

Smallbone: Hard work, tenacious and continues to link Stoke as an attacking force and get into brilliant positions himself. Neat finish for the third goal. 8

Pearson: The main man, reading the game so well to knit everything together. Standing ovation when he was substituted. 9

Laurent: Difficult to stop him with licence to go forward and link with Campbell in particular. Excellent work to set up Smallbone's goal. 8

Brown: Excellent movement to get the first goal. Tireless work down the right side. 8

Powell: Fit again and a lovely fit for this side in a central forward, lining in everywhere and nicking the ball back in dangerous positions. 8

Campbell: Playing with an aura of confidence, taking shots early and running at defenders. Superb cross for opener, calm for second. 9
