A new five-floor Sports Direct opens in the Arndale today — and includes high street fashion brands, an e-sports centre and a bra-fitting studio.

The new premises, which is 50,000 sq ft big, is the company's third UK 'flagship store', after openings in London and Birmingham. Dedicated areas have been set out for football, running — as well as specialist sports, plus menswear, womenswear, and kidswear.

It's part of a push to make the firm 'the number one sports retailer in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa'. That's according to Chief Executive Michael Murray.

"Each new store opening is pivotal to the next phase of growth for the Group, as we continue to bring the very best brands, environment, product innovations, and experiences to the high street," he added in a statement. "Manchester is a significant location for the Group, and we're excited to be opening our next flagship in the city."

As well as the usual sports offering, this new store includes a running concept, customisation facilities, and a USC. There's more than just clothing on offer, though.

High street brand Game is included, as is Belong, described as 'an enhanced gaming and social experience in the city centre, allowing fans to join the growing gaming community'.

"The area will also offer games, consoles, and accessories, catering for a variety of appetites, from casual players to aspiring professionals," a spokesperson explained. There's also a bra studio.

"It's a dedicated bra destination, featuring a unique multi-brand bra finder tool designed to help women find the right bra for their sort," they went on. "Developed with advice from industry-leading independent experts, the tool uses aggregated size data to suggest the right size for the user in every bra, no matter what brand.

"In addition to size, the tool doubles down as a fit finder, giving step-by-step advice from the changing rooms, or virtually from the customers' homes via SportsDirect.com."
