The moment Samson Dingle (Sam Hall) discovered he was going to be a father in Emmerdale, he was adamant he wanted nothing to do with the baby. Amelia (Daisy Campbell) - and Samson's parents - hoped he'd have a change of heart once baby Esther was born, but if anything it only made him double down on his insistence that he felt nothing for Esther and didn't want to be a part of her life. That's changed in recent weeks, but viewers know it's because Samson found out that Noah (Jack Downham) had come into some money. By pretending to want to be part of Amelia and Esther's lives, Samson knew he could get cash out of Noah in exchange for promising to stay away. The problem with that sort of arrangement is that people are never satisfied with one payment and keep coming back for more - which has proved to be the case with Samson. In episodes to be aired soon he's at it again. After Esther becomes ill while Samson is looking after her he does the right thing and calls an ambulance, but Noah is riled when everyone praises Samson for 'saving' Esther. Samson's true motives are once again revealed when he calls to check on the baby after her health scare, but he's only there to get more money from Noah. As soon as he gets the bank transfer from Noah he tells Amelia he's changed his mind about spending time with his daughter, leaving her devastated by his apparent change of heart. She's also worried about who will take care of Esther while she's at college if Samson is no longer willing to do so and she asks Noah if he'd be able to pay for childcare from his inheritance. She's shocked by his reaction, as he says she's only using him as a cash machine. Amelia storms off.
Charity (Emma Atkins) has witnessed this discussion and she questions Noah about his unexpected reaction to Amelia's request. Her son admits that all of his inheritance money has gone and he's being blackmailed by Samson. She's understandably fuming about what Samson has been up to - and soon Samson finds himself confronted by some very angry people as he faces up to what he's done.
