Catherine Tyldesley was forced to step down from an appearance in a stage show.

The Coronation Street actress is currently starring as Blanche Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde as she makes her professional musical theatre debut on its UK tour. However, the actress revealed she was heartbroken to miss the opening night in Woking as she admitted she needed to rest up after being struck down by a migraine.

She wrote on Instagram: "Due to visually impaired migraine striking moments before curtain up I am gutted to not be performing tonight. But rest assured the incredible @oonagh111 will be absolutely brilliant as Blanche.

"Heartbroken to not be doing opening night here in Woking but it's never about watching me bump into things/people on stage. Off to rest! Enjoy the show folks."

Catherine's understudy Oonagh stepped in for the Coronation Street star and reposted the soap actress' update on Instagram, adding: "You gorgeous woman."

Just hours earlier she had posted a picture in costume as Blanche ready for the Woking audience. Catherine previously revealed that she had been approached about doing musicals before "but I had to be really in love with something for me to leave the children for that amount of time".

After hearing Blanche's big number That's What You Call A Dream, Catherine decided it was the right time to make her musical debut. She said: "Me and my husband [Tom Pitfield] got one verse in and he looked at me and went 'oh my god, you have to do this show."

Elsewhere, Catherine thanks her husband for "holding down the fort" while she tours the country to perform in the musical. She shared a sweet picture holding her young daughter, captioning the post: "Baby Girl met momma at the train station and it was EVERYTHING.

"My family Picked me up in Leeds because Manchester was another hour on the train and another hour apart… clinging on to every single second of these fleeting weekends. My heart is replenished for another week. Another shout out to my beautiful husband for being the most incredible daddy and holding the fort. And to my beautiful son Alfie who is the best big brother in the world. We've got this team."

Catherine shares the role of Blanche with Hollyoaks and Holby City's Daisy Wood-Davis at certain venues. EastEnders actor Danny Hatchard has made his musical theatre debut with the show alongside Heathers and Newsies star, Alex James-Hatton as the pair share the role of Clyde Barrow across the tour.

The tour opened at Leicester Curve in February and the UK & Ireland tour has so far visited Dartford, Wolverhampton, Norwich, Manchester, Cardiff, Southampton, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Woking. It will also play in Nottingham, Southend, Belfast, Milton Keynes, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Cheltenham and Dublin.
