Firefighters are currently tackling a blaze at a popular Birmingham beauty spot. Emergency response crews were pictured at Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield just before 3pm this afternoon (May 28). A section of scrubland close to the Banners Gate entrance was ablaze. Two crews were on the scene and using jets to douse the flames. Our reporter on the scene photographed smoke billowing into the air. They also saw a fire squad attempting to contain the inferno. There is a lot of smoke in the air." A message from firefighters read: "Firefighters from Perry Barr, Sutton Coldfield, Erdington and Aston are currently in attendance at a fire within Sutton park. Thank you for joining us 17:52KEY EVENT Firefighters had been called to the blaze at 2.30pm. Four crews had used an extended hose reel water jet and beaters to extinguish the flames. Crews have now left Sutton Park. 15:50Josh Sandiford Our reporter said: The fire started in the last half hour and has been brought under control quickly. A fourth fire engine has arrived but the incident looks under control. The area is largely scrubland intersected with windy paths.
