DRIVERS have been urged to avoid an area to the north of Swindon following a 'serious crash'.

A police statement released at Saturday lunchtime warned motorists potentially travelling to Braydon crossroads, just six miles northwest of the town, to seek alternative routes.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "There has been a serious road traffic collision at the crossroads at Braydon involving a car and a motorbike.

"We would advise drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

"We will update as soon as we can."

Earlier today, the Wiltshire Specialist Ops Twitter account, which covers the county's Roads Policing Unit (RPU) revealed that the roads in the region were 'exceptionally busy' and that it had already dealt with several incidents.

It said: "The roads are exceptionally busy today with people moving about for the long weekend. RPU are out dealing with multiple incidents on the roads already.

"Keep the speeds sensible and get where you want to go safely."

Wiltshire Police has been approached for an update on this unfolding situation.
