Britain's Got Talent has been inundated with Ofcom complaints as it returned to screens for its new series this weekend.

The ITV talent show, which is presented by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, saw several new contestants audition in the hopes of making it all the way to the final.

In a new twist, several acts will head straight to the semi-finals this year as the judges have given out a record number of Golden Buzzers in the new season, which has so far seen a wide variety of acts take to the stage.

However, one particular act did not go down well with unimpressed viewers with a series of Ofcom complaints being made about the performance.

The broadcasting regulator received 54 complaints regarding Britain's Got Talent's Saturday night episode, the Mirror reports.

The complaints were in regards to contestant Kimberly Winter's burping act with fans at home left disgusted over the vulgar audition.

Two of the judges even walked out with Simon Cowell saying: "We weren't expecting that, did you really fly in from America to burp at me? Really? It was so stupid, it was brilliant, really, that's a compliment."

Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli both pressed their red buzzers, but Amanda Holden decided to get involved with the act and burped her reply out.

A horrified Alesha shouted: "I'm out of here, I'm out of here!" whilst Bruno added: "I'm bitterly disappointed, no, no, no!"

Bruno later changed his mind and gave Kimberly a yes, alongside both Amanda and Simon but Alesha gave the act a firm 'no'.

However, with three yes votes, Kimberly has made it through to the next round.

Viewers were equally as disturbed by the unusual act as one wrote: "Please tell me why someone was burping on stage?", whilst a second said: "Burping is funny at first. But soon gets boring. #BGT."

A third commented: "#BGT #BritiansGotTalent burping girl seriously????" while another added: "I'm sorry but how was that burping woman entertaining??…#BGT."

There were two Golden Buzzer acts during Saturday's episode which were West End singer and performer Sydnie Christmas and Ssaulabi Performance Troupe, a South Korean martial arts group.

The judges have chosen several acts to receive the coveted Golden Buzzer, as Simon, Alesha, Bruno, and Amanda whittle down the Britain's Got Talent hopefuls.

Viewers also saw an incredible performance from singer Innocent Masuku as well as a touching act where an eight-year-old boy with a brain tumour impressed crowds alongside a choir with their sweet performance of A Million Dreams.
