BRADFORD is set to be cooler for the rest of the Bank Holiday Weekend after temperatures hit a sweltering 20C yesterday.

The Met Office confirmed that Saturday (May 27) was the hottest day of the year so far in the UK.

Bramham in West Yorkshire was the hottest place in the country, where temperatures reached as high as 24.3C, the forecaster announced.

In Bradford, temperatures hit their hottest from 2pm to 4pm, according to The Met Office.

On either side of those times, Bradfordians enjoyed at least 18c of sunshine for eight hours from 11am in the morning.

Those temperatures will not be repeated today as larger spells of cloud will be paired with highs of 14c into the late afternoon.

As we move into Monday, the sun will be breaking through those clouds and making a reappearance with temperatures hitting 17c from 3pm to 6pm.

Forecaster Simon Partridge said the UK is seeing "hints of summer".

He commented: "For a bank holiday weekend it's pretty rare to be that dry and sunny, I guess, so we're not doing too bad."

The Met Office has said the dry, hot weather is expected to continue into next week as parts of the UK begin May half-term.

Met Office deputy chief forecaster, Steven Keates, said: "Next week is half term week for much of the country and there is a strong signal the high-pressure will continue to dominate our weather.

"Its exact position over the UK will dictate the temperature, wind direction and weather patterns, however, indications are that the dry, bright weather is likely to continue for most with little in the way of rain throughout next week."
