Tesco shoppers can now get groceries delivered to their door in as little as 30 minutes from 1,000 stores. The supermarket has rolled out its Woosh rapid delivery service to half of its Express convenience stores.

The service, which first launched in May 2021, allows customers to order food and snacks from a list of 2,500 to 4,500 essential products in as little as half an hour. Delivery is set at £2.99 for orders that cost £15 or more.

The roll-out means that 55 per cent of UK households can now access rapid delivery. Tesco had aimed to extend Whoosh to 800 of its stores by the end of February 2023, but has exceeded that, with the equivalent of a new Whoosh store opening every 11 hours since March 2022.

The immediacy of the service and convenience of home delivery has proven popular with customers looking a quick and easy meal deal or last-minute purchases. As the service has expanded, Tesco has also added new features to the app to improve the customer experience.

They include a 15-minute delivery window estimate and live tracking of the rider on a map. As a result, satisfaction scores for Whoosh have increased by 30 per cent this year.

Greg Bertrand, head of Whoosh, said: "Our Whoosh service is rolling out at a rapid pace, opening in two Express stores a day on average this year. We've beaten our own target and we are seeing growing evidence that customers love the quality, speed and convenience of the service.

"We are getting faster, and our availability is at a consistently high level. Whether it is a missing ingredient as you start to prepare a meal or ordering a Finest meal deal to eat that night, Whoosh can quickly come to the rescue."
