No love was lost on Friday evening as Hull KR defeated Leeds Rhinos 20-12 in the all-Yorkshire Super League clash.

A heated affair at times, the kicking from Rovers' maestro Jordan Abdull was the main talking point, with the Rhinos' back line struggling to cope with the swirling bombs all evening. Debutant Luke Hooley and winger Derrell Olpherts were in the firing line more than most.

For Hooley, it was a baptism of fire, and in the long run, he may be better for the experience. Speaking to Sky Sports' Jenna Brooks after the contest, Man of the match Abdull gave an honest and brutal response when asked about feeling sorry for the former Batley Bulldogs ace.

"I don't really feel sorry for him, but I'm sure he'll be better once he dries off," said Abdull. ""He's a fullback - it's his job to catch kicks, It's difficult in this weather. I'm sure if it was dry he'd nail them a lot better.

"It was never going to be the most attractive game. As soon as the heavens opened up, we knew what type of game it was going to be. One of my main strengths is my kicking game, and I knew that could get us a win tonight, and it did.

"We'd like to think we're an expansive team, and Leeds are an expansive team as well, but when the ball's like a bar of soap, you have to wrap the ball up a bit and start playing behind the As and Bs and complete high."

Abdull will surely get another three points on the Man of Steel leaderboard and could be at the summit when he travels to face former side Hull FC in next week's Good Friday derby.

After a controversial swap deal that has got people talking, the latest House of League episode welcomes Hull KR and Wakefield Trinity CEOs Paul Lakin and Michael Carter, who give their take on the Corey Hall/Will Dagger trade, plus lots more.
