Paddy McGuinness has broken his cover after the BBC confirmed Top Gear had been shelved. The BBC has paused filming on the show after Freddie Flintoff's horror crash.

BBC star Paddy was at Heart FM on Friday morning, chatting with Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston. He swerved any Top Gear talk and instead chatted about pal Peter Kay's comeback.

He said the comedian gave him a private 'full routine' of his current tour show. Paddy was on the show fresh from appearing on BBC The One Show on Thursday night, where he discussed his life at home with wife Christine, who he split from last year, and their three kids.

During his chat with The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas about his new Channel 4 show Tempting Fortune, Jermaine asked what Paddy would be tempted by and he revealed that it would be "the little things."

"Weirdly for me I think it is tea and coffee," he said. "I've got three kids, I've got to have at least four coffees in the morning." Paddy added: "Parents out there will know exactly what I mean, I've got to have it!

"God knows how I'd going on doing that. I can go without burgers and things like that but tea and coffee - it's the little things." Paddy's new show Tempting Fortune will see 12 strangers give up all luxuries to endure a gruelling 18-day trek across the South African wilderness as they attempt to reach a shared £300,000 prize at the finish line.

Paddy's interview came hours before it emerged the BBC had cancelled Top Gear. A statement from BBC Studios said it had "concluded its investigation into the accident at the Top Gear Test Track in Surrey last December, which regrettably injured presenter Freddie Flintoff."

It continued: "We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and will continue to support him with his recovery. Under the circumstances, we feel it would be inappropriate to resume making series 34 of Top Gear at this time. We understand this will be disappointing for fans, but it is the right thing to do, and we'll make a judgment about how best to continue later this year.

"This has also impacted the production team, who we continue to support." The statement added that there will be a health and safety review of the show, "in line with our procedures".
