Labour has written to Lancashire police calling for an investigation into a suspended Tory MP over allegations of misconduct in public office and potential fraud exposed by The Times.

The Conservative Party has been resisting pressure to make the referral over Mark Menzies's alleged conduct, despite being made aware of the claims more than three months ago.

Anneliese Dodds, the Labour Party chairwoman, has written to Lancashire police saying there is a clear public interest in the matter being investigated. She has indicated that the Tory chief whip and whips' office, as well as Conservative Campaign Headquarters, may hold information that would assist an investigation.
