Plans for the new shop.

And now popular fashion store Next is the latest big name to announce plans to move in.

The clothing giant will move into a 28,000 sq ft unit on the ground floor of the former Debenhams department store in October.

It will be welcome news for fans of the store, with the announcement coming close to 18 months after Next shut another city centre shop, which was also located on Argyle Street.

The brand also has a store in Buchanan Galleries.

As revealed in industry trade website Drapers, the deal for the 10-year lease on the premises was agreed with the asset manager of the retail space Sovereign Centros.

A Next spokesperson said: "Next are excited to be joining St Enoch and being back on Argyle Street after leaving it last year. We look forward to showcasing our latest autumn/winter ranges in Scotland's fashion capital with a planned opening in October."

Matt Elgey - senior asset manager at St Enoch's operators, Sovereign Centros - added: "The arrival of Next boosts St Enoch's position as the epicentre for retail and leisure within Glasgow city centre and will complement our exciting occupier line up."

In January, Next reported a 4.8% rise in full-price sales year on year in the nine weeks to 30 December and raised its full-year profit guidance.

The retailer said both online and retail store sales exceeded its full-price sales expectations during the period, with retail up 12.5% compared to last year.

The news comes as beauty giant Superdrug confirmed it was opening a new store in Braehead Shopping Centre.

The new shop, which opens on Friday, will offer customers access to exclusive brands, and the latest in health, wellness and beauty products.

It will also offer premium fragrances and will even come with a brand-new beauty studio.

The store, which will occupy a space of 9,324sq ft, will also create 10 new jobs in the local area.
