Simon Jordan has been left humbled by his brutal Kai Havertz prediction, with the Arsenal star having proved the talkSPORT pundit wrong. Havertz netted twice on Tuesday evening as the Gunners registered their biggest-ever win in all competitions against Chelsea.

Arsenal splashing £65million on Havertz in the summer transfer window did raise eyebrows, given the apparent deficiencies in their squad. Having narrowly missed out on the Premier League title the season before, many were expecting Mikel Arteta and co. to chase a recognised centre-forward, but so far, their Havertz purchase has proved worthwhile.

Not that Jordan agreed, with the talkSPORT pundit having labelled Havertz a 'pointless' addition. Speaking back in January, he said: "Havertz should be on that TV show Pointless. I don't understand, that must be a tax write-off for some reason or another.

"It's all well and good saying they need a striker, but we said that last season, we said that one of the key components that was missing when Arsenal bottled it last year was someone that can change the direction of travel in difficult games and they didn't have it."

He added: "[Gabriel] Martinelli wasn't it, [Gabriel] Jesus isn't it, and I'm sure Havertz isn't it, but they went and spent £65million of the owner's money on buying a player that Chelsea must have laughed to their back teeth off at getting that money back."

With 16 goal contributions to his name in the Premier League this season, Havertz has more than played his part in Arsenal's title surge. And when quizzed about Havertz's - and his team's - performance against Chelsea, Arteta was quick to praise.

He said: "He [Havertz] was unbelievable, in all departments. For a nine to score two goals the way he scored, his contribution was great. It's a question for him but I'm sure he's very pleased."

"It was a big performance, collectively and individually. I thought we were really good, against a really good team that was in great form and were going to ask us a lot of questions. I think we responded really well. From the start we were really determined, really flowing, playing with a lot of courage and making things happen. Really happy with the result. It's a big day for our supporters."

Should they win their next three matches - starting this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur - Arsenal will be guaranteed to enter the final week of the season top of the table.
