Two teenagers have been arrested over alleged large-scale disorder in a Scots town. Police were scrambled to an address in Braehead, Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, at 8pm on Thursday, March 16, after an alleged mob of around 200 surrounded the property.

Bricks and fireworks were allegedly launched in the direction of officers who had been called to assist. Eyewitnesses claimed the group had gone on to attack the house, while a police helicopter was drafted in to deal with the incident.

At the time of the disturbance, one local claimed: "There was a mob of about 200 people. There were police cars everywhere and the helicopter was up with its searchlight on. It was really scary."

While enquiries remain ongoing, the force confirmed that three teenagers, a 19-year-old man and two 17-year-old male youths, have been arrested. They were released on an undertaking and will appear at court at a later date

Police patrols have since been stepped up in the area. Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Ryan McMurdo said: "Around 8pm, we were called to reports of a large crowd gathering outside a house in Braehead. Unfortunately during the incident, some of those gathered became extremely hostile towards police.

"Objects including bricks and fireworks were thrown at officers and public order trained officers were called to assist. The crowd later dispersed. We have a duty to ensure the safety of everyone involved and although no officers were injured, this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable.

"This type of disorder causes fear and alarm to residents and I would like to reassure the local community that our investigation is continuing to trace those involved. We have stepped up patrols in the area and anyone with concerns should speak to officers.

"We are working to establish more details on the offences committed, identify those responsible and take the appropriate action. This will include reviewing any available video footage. We urge anyone with information to contact officers through 101 quoting reference number 3328 of 16 March.

"Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained. Anyone with personal footage of the incident is asked to send it to the dedicated email address operationiridescent@scotland.police.uk "

Chief Inspector McMurdo added: "As a result of the policing plan put in place to address these recent issues, a 19-year-old man and two 17-year-old male youths were arrested in connection with an incident of disorder that took place on Friday, March 17, around 7.50pm in Strathleven Drive. They were released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date. A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal."
