New 'five minutes' update from DVLA to all UK drivers

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has issued a fresh update for all UK drivers, reminding them of their responsibility to ensure their vehicle tax is current, unless they own an exempt vehicle.

As the governmental body responsible for maintaining records of licensed drivers and vehicles in the UK, DVLA keeps a close watch on motorists' compliance with vehicle taxation. The agency has highlighted that a mere fraction below 2% of vehicles are untaxed, which can lead to severe penalties including fines, court action, and even the clamping or impounding of the offending vehicle, reports the Liverpool Echo.

In a recent announcement made on Tuesday, the DVLA encouraged drivers to take a brief "five minutes" to simplify their lives. The message, shared on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, stated: "Do you know when your vehicle tax is due? With a driver and vehicles account, you can choose to receive vehicle tax reminders by text or email! ".

The post continued to nudge drivers towards convenience, saying, "Make life a little easier, it only takes around 5 minutes, http://gov.uk/dvla/account #DVLADigital".
