People have been asked to "avoid the area" as firefighters tackle a blaze at Sutton Park. Crews are currently working at the popular Birmingham beauty spot. A section of scrubland close to the Banners Gate entrance was ablaze this afternoon (May 28). Two crews were on the scene and using jets to douse the flames. West Midlands Fire Service confirmed it was in attendance. They said rescuers from Perry Barr, Sutton Coldfield, Erdington and Aston had rushed to the scene. LIVE UPDATES: Sutton Park live as firefighters tackle blaze at popular beauty spot A message read: "Firefighters from Perry Barr, Sutton Coldfield, Erdington and Aston are currently in attendance at a fire within Sutton park. Please avoid the area where possible." Our reporter on the scene photographed smoke billowing into the air. They also saw a fire squad attempting to contain the inferno. Our reporter said: "Around eight firefighters are using tools to dampen down the bushes. There is a lot of smoke in the air." Got a story?
