A WOMAN has died and a man is fighting for his life following a crash involving a van and pedestrians.

Police have made an arrest and are appealing for information after the horror smash in Caerphilly, Wales, on March 17 at around 7.50pm.

Gwent Police say the second pedestrian, a man, is in a critical condition in hospital.

Cops say a 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of four driving offences and remains in custody being questioned.

An appeal has been launched for witnesses who may have any information concerning the incident to help investigations.

A statement from Gwent Police said: "We're appealing for information to a fatal road traffic collision in Caerphilly.

"It happened on Nantgarw Road at about 7.50pm, on Friday, March 17, and involved a van and two pedestrians.

"One pedestrian, a 67-year-old woman from the Caerphilly area, has died and we have specialist officers supporting her family.

"A second pedestrian, a 58-year-old man from the Caerphilly area, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

"A 48-year-old man, from the Caerphilly area, has been arrested on suspicion of four driving offences and remains in custody being questioned."
