Louis Tomlinson has received yet another award for his glowing trophy cupboard.

The hitmaker, 32, has made a name for himself since releasing his debut solo album Walls, in 2020. In the years following the record hitting Number 4 on the Official UK Charts and being certified Silver, Tomlinson has gone on to tour the globe and bagged two Top Ten singles.

But it appears his solo career is receiving industry recognition with the Doncaster, South Yorks, star bagging Artist of the Year, having gone up against fellow South Yorkshire-born singer, Self Esteem and Newcastle's Sam Fender. The star was awarded the gong at the Northern Music Awards, appearing via videolink to celebrate his award.

Sitting in a hotel room, the singer said: "Hi, I'm Louis Tomlinson and I'm really sorry I can't be with you tonight at the Nordoff and Robbins Northern Music Awards, I'm currently on tour. But I just want to say, it means the world to win Artist of the Year. Thank you, thank you and thanks for doing such an incredible thing for charity."

Although Tomlinson burst onto the scene singing pop songs, in recent years, he has branched out into punk rock, indie pop, soft rock and EDM, proving to be one of the most versatile artists in the industry. The musician is currently preparing for the final shows of his Faith In The Future World Tour which he kicked off on May 26, 2023, with his final show being on September 8, 2024, as part of Superbloom Festival.

The event was organised by the music therapy charity, Nordoff and Robbins, which has hosted the Silver Clef Awards in London since 1976. Director of engagement and communications, Nadra Shah stated that she hopes the awards will be held in various cities each year. She said: "If I were to be really bold, I'd say I'd love for it to become like the Brits of the North - an established award show that attracts the highest talent, the biggest names, and in doing so raises a shedload of money for the organisation and enables us to continue doing what we do, which is delivering music therapy to people that need it most."

Elsewhere, The Reytons were awarded the gong for Disruptor of the Year, while Spice Girls star Melanie C was awarded the Special Recognition gong. Liam Fray of The Courteeners was on hand to collect Band of the Year, celebrating their debut album St Jude, initially released in 2008, reaching the Number One spot in 2023 having been re-released.

Fray, 38 stated it was "Really exciting to be a part of a really special night for the north." The Middleton-born musician added to the BBC: "We do feel like we do things differently. I know it's a bit of a cliché. I think everybody, whatever region you're from, feels a bit 'us and them'.

"I want to enjoy it. It's more of a celebration. I think that's on everybody's mind - should you have to do your own [awards]? But yeah, why not?"
