Burnley fire live updates as six fire engines rush to scene and road closed

Emergency services are at the scene of a major fire involving a vehicle and an outbuilding.

Six fire engines from Burnley, Nelson, Hyndburn, Colne, Leyland, and a water bowser were called to the incident on Cornfield Grove in Burnley earlier this afternoon (May 28). Crews remain in attendance and neighbouring properties have been advised to keep all windows and doors closed.

Lancashire Constabulary said the road is closed due to the fire and people are being asked to avoid the area. The blaze is causing 'lots of slow' to blow towards Padiham.

74 homes without electricity

Electricity North West website states 74 properties have been hit by a power cut.

They said:

This power cut has been caused by an unexpected incident on the high voltage cable that provides electricity to your home or business.

We didn't know before your electricity went off that this was going to happen but now we know, rest assured we will get your power back on safely and as quickly as possible.

Dozens of properties hit by power outages

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has tweeted:

This incident has affected a power line and approximately 75 local properties may experience power outages.

@ElectricityNW engineers are working to restore power as soon as possible.

We are currently at the scene of a road closure on Cornfield Grove, Burnley.

The road is closed due to a fire.

Please avoid the area if possible.

Fire service statement

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said:

At 12:09 on 28 May, six fire engines from Burnley, Nelson, Hyndburn, Colne, Leyland, and a water bowser attended a vehicle fire on Cornfield Grove, Burnley. The incident involved one vehicle and also affected an outbuilding. Firefighters used four hose reels, two jets, and two thermal imaging cameras to extinguish the fire.

In an update at 1pm, they said:

Crews currently remain in attendance. If you are affected by smoke, please keep all windows and doors closed. Avoid the area.
