A new police drama is set to replace BBC One's Better, the last episode of which aired last week. Blue Lights, set in Northern Ireland, will make its debut on Monday, March 27. The series is created by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, whose previous credits include the BBC's 2020 drama The Salisbury Poisonings. It stars Lichfield-born actress Sian Brooke as lead character Grace Ellis, with Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones) and Andi Osho (Line of Duty) among her co-stars. Blue Lights tackles the everyday challenges of policing in Belfast as well as exploring the broader political context. Here's what we know so far about the new series. It focuses on lead character Grace Ellis (Sian Brooke) who quits her job as a social worker to take on a new career as a police officer in the Police Service of Northern Ireland. She is joined on the force by fellow newcomers Annie Conlon (Katherine Devlin) and Tommy Foster (Nathan Braniff). All three face a stern challenge in proving themselves and simply staying in policing, on top of all the difficulties and complications that come with being a police officer in Northern Ireland. Blue Lights is filmed in Belfast, where the series is set. Filming for the series began in February 2022. Sian Brooks stars in Blue Lights as Grace Ellis, a social worker who quits her job in her 40s to take up a new career in the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
