A fish and chip shop in Ramsgate has been voted as one of the best in the country. The UK's best 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways and 10 Best Fish and Chip Restaurants 2022/2023 has been named after a series of mystery visits to shops across the county. Newington Fish Bar has made the list and is rated the 31st best restaurant in Ramsgate. It has a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor, is a firm favourite in the town and offers meals for the bargain price of between £2 to £7. According to Fry Magazine, the shops were rated for the quality of the food, the cleanliness of the premises, staff knowledge, value for money, ease of ordering and social media presence. It has won several awards including the prestigious 5-star quality award from Seafish, The Seafish Authority, and also a 5-star rating from The Hygiene Council. Recent customer reviews give it rave ratings. The most recent TripAdvisor comment says: "Been using this shop for past couple of years now and the food it top quality. Won't go anywhere else and always highly recommended to friends and family. "I''m very picky with my cod and hate it when shops serve with the skin still attached. The cod here is cooked and served to perfection Staff are always super friendly and will even chuck in a cheeky extra at the end of the day if they have leftovers." Another said: "Excellent fish and chips. Cooked fresh, served by a lovely young lady, on I believe her first day. All staff at the restaurant were great, and all the food was lovely. Highly recommended." And another said: "Back at it again. Some of the best chips I've ever tasted. I personally recommend cheesy chips and I also enjoyed the chips with curry sauce. "The staff are amazing and they're doing a great job during this challenging time. I'm looking forward to my next takeaway." Reece Head, competition organiser, said: "Once again we've had another year where it's simply got harder to operate a fish and chip business, with rising energy, labour and ingredient costs taking a heavy toll. "It's not easy but operators are working harder and smarter, staying ahead of changing tastes and behaviours and adapting accordingly. "Although the profits might not be in fish and chips like they have in years gone by, the passion certainly is. And our awards are a testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment these operators put into running successful businesses. "We're seeing shops introduce vegan and gluten free options to appeal to a wider customer base, install self-serve kiosks and develop online ordering apps to make serving easier, invest in new frying equipment to produce better quality fish and chips, and embrace social media to engage with and reach more customers.
