Marks and Spencer shoppers say the 'UK is finished' after spotting the price of a sandwich. On X, formerly known as Twitter, customers have expressed their outrage over how much a egg and cress M&S Café sandwich costs.

On the social media platform, one user called No Context Brits, shared a photo of the retailer's Posh Egg Mayo and Watercress sandwich in an unidentified store. In the image, the label states the sarnie will set you back £6.

The account captioned the photo: "This country is finished." The post has been viewed almost 700k times. Hundreds of Brits shared their thoughts in the comment section.

William replied: "Fun fact: The word posh here actually costs you an extra 3 quid!" Dave asked: "Where's the un-posh one, and is it cheaper?"

Mark said: "£6 quid, wtf - that's ridiculous." Smash commented: "£6 for an egg sandwich! World has gone mad." Craftyartygal wrote: "£6 for two sandwiches, you could buy a loaf of bread, butter plus fillings of your choice for that and make many sandwiches."

However, Maureen said: "I got a version of one of those £6 sandwiches, but reduced. I have to say it was the best sandwich I've ever bought in a shop."

It's not the first time the store has made headlines for its prices. A 50g pot of its Chip Shop Scraps is currently priced at £2, meaning the Scraps cost £40 per kilo.

People have shared their reaction over the chip shop snack, with Ticky writing: "£40/kg for deep fried flour and water." Snootworld claimed: "Chip shop scraps are now officially classed as a main meal for the meal deal combo."

Manchester Evening News reported shoppers had accused the shop of 'insulting the north'. One critic said: "Don't know what's worse, calling them 'Scraps' or charging for them!"

A spokesperson for Marks & Spencer said: "Our deep-filled Egg Mayo & Watercress sandwich in our M&S Café has over 150g filling which includes luxurious egg mayonnaise combined with salad cream and chives for a richer flavour. Paired with an extra layer of chunky slices of free-range egg, fresh baby watercress, and rocket leaves, the filling sits in between thick slices of soft 9-grain bread. This indulgent lunchtime option is proving to be a real customer favourite that can be enjoyed in our Cafés or on the go."
