Kate Garraway is planning to fly husband Derek Draper across the world in a bid to seek pioneering treatment.

The ITV Good Morning Britain host has "been looking into a number of experimental medical options" to help Derek who has become the longest-suffering coronavirus patient in the UK. Heart-breaking reports have been published indicating that the mum-of-two is set to make a "desperate" bid to save Derek, from Chorley, in what some claim she fears could be "her last hope".

Former political advisor Derek, 55, spent 13 months in hospital after catching Covid-19 back at the start of the pandemic in 2020. He was left in a coma for several months and returned to the family home he shares with Kate and their two children but requires round the clock care.

Over the past three years Kate has shared details of her and Derek's life following the Covid-19 battle and the devastating effect it had on his health. This includes the ITV documentary's 'Finding Derek' and 'Caring for Derek'.

The former I'm A Celebrity star is now said to be set to fly across the world with Derek to undergo pioneering treatment. Kate wants to push ahead with the treatment, according to Birmingham Live.

In 2021 and 2022, Derek travelled to Mexico for clinical trials. A source told Bella : "This really is Kate's desperate bid to try and save Derek's life and she is willing to try anything.

"She's been looking into a number of experimental medical options around the world and particularly in Mexico in an effort to save him from the devastating effects of Covid-19. Kate only wants the best for Derek. She wants to try it because she feels as though it's her last hope."

GMB presenter Kate recently praised Derek's carers in a touching post on Instagram. "Many of you will remember Jake who cared for Derek when he first came out of hospital in April 21 - from the documentary #caringforderek, so you will know what a wonderful healthcare professional he is. But have just found out he's also an amazing musician - under the name @sencymiller.x," Kate said.

"He's just released a song called #okukuseku (check it out in his bio) - which no surprise is full of love & inspiration to keep going & never give up. The world of carers never fails to surprise me with their depths of talent, thoughtfulness and motivation #happyfriday all!"

Kate is "refusing to give up" on Derek's health battle. In February, she shared: "We can't give up on him. This doctor dealt with people, not as severe as Derek, but in the area. The doctor offered us the chance to be a test case."

She added: "When he first came back the fatigue was overwhelming. They said that was a good thing. We're starting to see little by little improvements. I really hope it can build."
