Britain's Got Talent has been hit with Ofcom complaints as it returned for a new series this weekend.

The ITV talent show - fronted by Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly - saw several new contestants audition in the hope of making it all the way to the grand final. This year, several acts will head straight through to the semi-finals as the judges have given out a record number of Golden Buzzers in the brand new series, which has so far seen a wide variety of acts take to the stage.

However, one act didn't go down well with viewers at home and a string of Ofcom complaints were made. The broadcasting regulator received 54 complaints about Britain's Got Talent's Saturday episode.

The complaints related to contestant Kimberly Winter's burping routine, with fans at home left feeling sick over the audition. It led to two judges walking out, with Simon Cowell sharing: "We weren't expecting that, did you really fly in from America to burp at me? Really? It was so stupid, it was brilliant, really, that's a compliment."

Kimberly Winter's performance caused quite a stir

Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli both pressed their red buzzers, but Amanda got involved with act and burped her reply out. Alesha was horrified as she shouted: "I'm out of here, I'm out of here!" whilst Bruno added: "I'm bitterly disappointed, no, no, no!"

Whilst Bruno later changed his mind and gave Kimberly Winter a yes, alongside both Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell, Alesha firmly disagreed and gave the act a 'no'. However, with three yeses, Kimberly was through to the next round.

Fans were equally horrified by the act. One wrote: "Please tell me why someone was burping on stage?", whilst a second added: "Burping is funny at first. But soon gets boring. #BGT." A third wrote: "#BGT #BritiansGotTalent burping girl seriously????" while another added: "I'm sorry but how was that burping woman entertaining??…#BGT."

During Saturday's episode, there was a Golden Buzzer for West End singer and performer Sydnie Christmas and Ssaulabi Performance Troupe, a South Korean martial arts group. The judges have chosen several acts to receive the coveted Golden Buzzer, as Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli and Amanda Holden whittle down the Britain's Got Talent hopefuls.

Elsewhere across the weekend, there was an incredible performance from singer Innocent Masuku whilst an eight-year-old boy with a brain tumour impressed the crowds alongside a choir with their sweet performance of A Million Dreams.
