Met Office reveals first forecast for Easter long weekend

Meteorologists are predicting that thundery showers, frost and fog may send Easter picnickers running for cover.

But they also expect spells of dry weather, with temperatures slightly above normal for April and little chance of strong winds.

The forecast for the Easter weekend reads: "A general trend to less unsettled conditions is likely into April.

"Still some wetter weather at times, with occasional showers, which could be heavy or thundery.

"However, most areas are likely to see some spells of dry weather, with potentially frost and some fog overnight.

"The chances of strong winds are probably lower than normal, and whilst temperatures are likely to generally be near to slightly above normal, cooler spells remain possible."

The Met Office will release more detailed forecasts as the Easter weekend approaches and it becomes possible to make specific predictions for Good Friday, Saturday, Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

This coming weekend will see a mix of sunshine and showers on both Saturday March 25 and Sunday March 26.

The forecast for Saturday reads: "Sunny spells and showers for most.

"These heaviest and most frequent in north where they will be wintry over high ground.

"More persistent rain arriving in far southwest towards evening."

Looking forward to Sunday, the Met Office added: "Rain clearing the south Sunday morning then turning colder with wintry showers, especially across the northeast."
