Here it is - York's brand new road.

The mini-bypass, running through York station car park, reconnects the city's inner ring road after the closure of Queen Street Bridge.

It was due to be finished this weekend, and the temporary road was set to open at 6am today (Monday).

This video and these still pictures were taken by father and son drone operators Robert and Steve Austin.

They were using the lightweight drones that are allowed to be used in built-up areas.

The footage and photographs were taken on Sunday. They show how quickly the work had progressed compared to the pictures taken by YorkMix on Saturday.

York residents had been asked by City of York Council to only use their car if it was absolutely necessary, to ensure the bridge closure didn't cause gridlock.

That message appeared to have been heeded, as the traffic in the city was generally OK over the weekend.

This road should be in operation all week, and then there will be a second closure this coming weekend to allow for the demolition of Queen Street bridge.

This closure will run from 8pm on Friday 26 April to 6am on Monday 29 April.

Then the temporary road will be in service until the new Station Gateway project is finished and opened, due to be in November. This will improve the area and transport links around York Station.
