BBC Radio 2 In The Park will "head north" and celebrate with "the good people of Lancashire" when it arrives in Preston, the station's boss has said.

The city's Moor Park was revealed as the venue for the annual live music event by Breakfast Show presenter Gaby Roslin earlier.

The BBC said the full line-up for the event, which will take place on 7 and 8 September, will be revealed in early June, with tickets going on sale shortly after.

Station head Helen Thomas said after last year's "epic extravaganza in Leicester, we can't wait to head north with our fantastic family of Radio 2 presenters".

She added that the station would be bringing "some of the most-loved music artists on the planet to party with the good people of Lancashire".

Following the announcement, presenter Richie Anderson invited listeners to get to Preston North End's Deepdale stadium as soon as possible to be in with a chance of winning tickets, before later revealing that the 40 people who had made it would all be getting a pair.

Preston City Council chief executive Adrian Phillips said he was "absolutely delighted" the event would be staged in Moor Park, which previously hosted BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2007.

"This is a brilliant coup for Preston and will be a huge boost for the city," he said.

"We can't wait to hear who the line-up is for this year and to welcome thousands of Radio 2 listeners to proud Preston."

BBC Radio 2 In The Park returned after a four-year break in 2023 and saw Kylie Minogue, Tears for Fears, Rick Astley, Soft Cell and a host of other acts take to the stage in Leicester's Victoria Park.
