French fishermen shut off Saint-Malo port before Calais and Channel tunnel blockade

French fishermen have blocked the port of Saint-Malo, hours before they attempt to stop Channel tunnel freight and blockade the ports of Calais and Ouistreham to increase pressure on the UK to grant licences for boats fishing in inner British waters.

Announcing a "warning shot" at British interests the national fisheries committee said that fishing boats would attempt to halt ferry traffic at the ports, and entrances to the freight terminal at the tunnel would be obstructed for several hours today. They also aim to stop traffic near Calais on the A16 motorway that leads to the port and the tunnel.

It was unclear how the protesters would evade the tight security around the tunnel entrance at Coquelles, near Sangatte, on the outskirts of Calais.
