Big jump in Gloucestershire's Covid cases as another death confirmed

There have been more than 500 new Covid cases confirmed in Gloucestershire today (Thursday, November 25), marking a big jump from previous days this week.

Today, a total of 529 new cases were confirmed in the region, which marks a big increase from yesterday's 425 new cases.

One person also sadly died in Cheltenham today, bringing the region's total number of fatalities within 28 days of a positive Covid test since the start of the pandemic to 1,014.

Up until today, each area of Gloucestershire had seen fewer than 100 new cases, however, two areas saw jumps above that number on Thursday, with Gloucester recording 157 new cases, while Cheltenham saw 112 new cases.

Tewkesbury follows with 92 cases, while Stroud, the Cotswolds, and Forest of Dean all saw between 50 and 60 new cases.

Today, it was also confirmed that a further three people are fighting for their lives on mechanical ventilation in Gloucestershire hospitals, with the total number of hospitalised Covid-19 patients reaching 52.

Since the start of the pandemic, 4,570 patients have been admitted to hospitals in Gloucestershire with Covid-19.

There are also major fears over patient safety, with wait times of 24 hours for Gloucestershire's out-of-hours GP service.
