Updates as murder investigation launched in Ealing after girl, 5, found dead

A murder investigation has been launched after a five-year-old girl was found dead in Ealing, West London.

Police were called at 12.56pm on Tuesday, September 14, following concerns for the welfare of the occupants of a home on Leyborne Avenue, W13.

Paramedics also rushed to the scene but despite their efforts, the five-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 31-year-old woman, believed to be known to the victim, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. She has been taken into custody.

A police cordon has been set up around number 48 Leyborne Avenue, W13. There is a police presence outside the house.

The police have not yet confirmed how the girl is related to the 31-year-old woman.

The girl's next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Local residents told My London that they can't believe something like this has happened on their doorstep.

One resident said: "I am in total shock. It's my neighbours, they are a lovely family [...] When the police came yesterday I had no idea this had happened."

Another neighbour described emergency services arriving at the scene on Leyborne Avenue yesterday (September 14).

Hiba Alsumaidee, 38, said: "There were many, many police, five police cars. Two ambulances came [...] there were around 15 police who came around three o'clock.

"Even all night there were police cars."

Neighbours have expressed their shock and horror today over the death of the five-year-old girl, describing her as a "little princess".

Throughout the day, the collective mood on the street was one of horror as residents came to terms with what happened in this leafy, quiet corner of West London.

'5 police cars and 2 ambulances' arrived at the scene where the girl was found

One neighbour has described emergency services arriving at the scene on Leyborne Avenue yesterday.

Local residents have told My London that they are in 'total shock' at what has happened.

One neighbour said: "I am in total schock. It's my neighbours, they are a lovely family [...] When the police came yesterday I had no idea this had happened."

The girl and the woman were 'known to each other'

According to the Metropolitan Police, the five-year-old girl and the woman who has been arrested "were known to each other".

The exact details of their relationship have not yet been revealed.
